Classes

We offer Matwork classes for everyone, whether you are a complete beginner or wish to challenge your body further. All classes have a maximum size of 10 participants and run in line with school terms. If you are new to Pilates you will need to attend beginners course or two private one to one sessions. You will find that if you have an injury you will make better progress if you have one or two private sessions before you join a class.

Beginner’s course

Pilates is a gentle, non-aerobic, no impact method of exercise which lengthens and strengthens the muscles, and improves posture without stressing the joints or the heart. The six week beginners course introduces the basic principles of pilates, breathing, relaxation, body alignment and stabilisation. The course includes regular homework and information on some of the key exercises is supplied.

With Pilates we can isolate and strengthen specific muscles and tackle particular problems with precision. Pilates exercises can help recovery following injury or surgery, and by strengthening the body we aim to reduce the possibility of the same injuries recurring in the future.

Improvers I and II

These classes build upon the skills learnt earlier and develop from the basic alignment and stabilising exercises into toning and strengthening exercises whilst maintaining core stability. Classes include the use of various types of small equipment to challenge the body further.

Intermediate

These classes are much faster and flow one exercise into another giving the body a well balanced and strong workout over 75 minutes. They are for those who have developed good stability and knowledge of pilates exercises.

Class times

Matwork classes run in line with school terms. Please Note: If you are new to Pilates you will need to attend beginners course or some private one to one sessions. You will find that if you have an injury you will make better progress if you have one or two private sessions before you join a class. All classes are held in the converted stables at the Global Clinic.
